Faith & Heart-Centered Encouragement

Prayer has a foundational role in my life and business. It’s my only way of staying connected to the Father, my source of Life and Peace. This past week I felt Him inviting me to share with you about the role that prayer plays in my business specifically. To be completely honest with you I’m writing this out of a place of my need, not my achievement. I’ve spent more time today stressing over my yearly business financial goals  than praying over them. Running a small business is an act of deep faith and trust in God as Provider.

I shared this information first with my newsletter community, but felt that it was too important not to share here as well. Now is a great time, as a start of a new year, to recommit your business (life, family, schedule, anything and anyone who you are in charge of in your life) to God. Starting with the posture of surrender helps prepare our hearts and minds to see things God’s way and hear from Him in a way that isn’t clouded by our own ambitions and plans.

If you run a small business, pray for God to prosper your competition before you ask Him to prosper you. This was an ah-ha moment for me because it flipped my thinking upside down. This principle is built on serving others before ourselves, and on the Character of an Abundant God.

Pray that God would send you the exact people who you are meant to serve, even if that means a smaller volume of clients. I also pray for my current clients: their marriages, families, and their hearts.

Include your family in praying for your business. This gives my kids insight into why mommy runs a business, how I lead this business, and how I seek God to lead me. It also gives my kids an opportunity to participate in the success of my business. Most importantly, as my kids begin to see God answer their prayers it will build their confidence in His character and give them memories to lean on as they grow and wait on prayers to be answered.

If you have employees or interns, pray for them and with them. This has the opportunity to create a stronger bond and stronger team atmosphere for your business.

Last, but certainly not least, ask for prayer. Are you going through a difficult season in your life or business? Ask those you trust for help and prayer. In the past I didn’t think I could reveal to anyone else that I was worried about not having enough bookings for the year, for example. But, God has reminded me that if we humble ourselves, He will lift us up in His time. So now I try to be honest in trusted company about my worries and fears and ask for prayer for my own heart and success of my business.

These are just a few ways that I incorporate prayer into my life and business. I have some fun and meaningful stories to go along with these points that I hope to share one day. What is one way that I can be praying for you? Do you desire to lead your business or family from a place of faith? I’d love to hear how you’re doing that or if there’s anything holding you back from leading from a place of deep-rooted faith and what that may be. Email me with your prayer requests and feedback.
